little gets a lift: behind the scenes of the latest Spark TVC

After the roaring success of the ‘Little Can Be Huge’ Spark television campaign that aired in August 2017, everyone at The True Honey Co. was pleased as punch to be invited back to help the telco celebrate New Zealand as a place to do business.

Each story in the ‘Business Edge’ campaign – launched with a 60-second hero brand ad – looks at the huge wins that come from a series of little victories.

The campaign also highlights unique Kiwi qualities like perseverance and ingenuity that local businesses draw on to get a little edge. The team at Spark were fascinated by how we use helicopters to place our hives into remote Manuka blocks deep in New Zealand’s pristine back country. We explained that doing things way lets us access the most Manuka-dense native bush, to make some of the world’s highest MGO rated Manuka honey, while leaving things the way we found them. That’s why you’ll see  one of our intrepid beekeepers hanging from the long-line while being flown into the bush.

But they didn’t bargain on capturing such a dramatic image of our Apiary Manager, Laurence with bees entirely covering his hands. At The True Honey Co, the bees are really the stars of our show. So we wanted to demonstrate how we care for our fuzzy little friends, making them feel so calm, comfortable and content that they don’t sting. But please don’t try this at home folks: our beekeepers have years of experience and training in handling bees gently and without fear.

Spark appointed Shine as its strategic partner, working alongside production company FINCH, with music by Franklin Road and post production by Blockhead. This time we were in excellent company too – sharing the spotlight with other innovative Kiwi companies like The Whitestone Cheese factory in Oamaru, music app Melodics and Rocket Lab in Mahia.

We managed to capture some sterling snaps of the action behind the scenes on the day. And you might also like to take a look at the finished article
